Shahid Afridi, a former cricketer for Pakistan, has criticized the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for allegedly fabricating justifications for their participation in the Asia Cup 2023 matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to reports in the media, concerns about the scorching September weather in the UAE have prevented Bangladeshi players from participating in the tournament there.
Afridi’s remarks came after the Leading body of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wouldn’t send its group to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup. To break the stop, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed a half-and-half competition model, including isolating it into two stages. Pakistan, excluding India, would host the initial phase, and the United Arab Emirates would host the second phase.
Afridi emphasized that professional cricketers should not base their decision to play on the weather when discussing the reported concerns about the weather.
When you play professional cricket, you don’t play based on the weather. In the morning, we played matches in Sharjah. When we got closer to the boundary, we used to feel dizzy. It used to be so hot. Afridi stated on a local television station, “These things happen, but it also tests your fitness level.”
